Towards More Integrated, Miniaturized and Reliable Systems at the Point of Need

This year’s Annual Concertation and Consultation EU Workshop on Micro-Nano-Bio Systems (MNBS) will be in Amsterdam on 12 &13 December, co-located with the International MicroNanoConference. The MNBS programme emphasizes the need to translate enabling technologies into competitive, validated and manufacturable products to impact citizen‘s life & industry.

A number of projects will be presented in the upcoming workshop.
A peek into some of these projects:
HypoSens; a minimally-invasive and crucial prognostic tool for breast cancer progression in early stages. Using a non-invasive near-infrared imaging device, the HypoSens imaging systems is able to offer an alternative to the Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy, the current surgical procedure for breast cancer staging. With an approximate cost of 60,000€ per device unit and additional 5,000€ per patient, the device could be an affordable, accurate, easy to use prognostic solution for clinicians towards more accurate and fast diagnostics and personalized treatment options.

LoveFood2Market; Food safety tests could soon be easier and faster: EU-funded researchers are developing lab-on-a-chip technology in a portable pre-industrial prototype for the quick detection of multiple pathogens in multiple samples. The project aims to deliver a solution that would test samples of dairy products or meat for a number of pathogens in less than four hours. In contrast with common techniques, the solution would be affordable, fully automated and would not require skilled personnel or large, dedicated lab-based equipment.
