Safety communication over Industrial Ethernet for embedded systems

Industrial safety refers to the ultimate protection by bringing systems in a predefined power-off or limp-home state. Although most machine control is nowadays distributed via industrial networks, machine safety is often still hard-wired by circuit-breakers and relays. Safety communication via networks adds benefits and efficiency to a control system. That’s why all system integrators provide safety solutions via networks.

But how do you add safety communication to your custom electronics or control systems?

This presentation is about distributed safety communication via the existing network topology for embedded systems. It focus both on theory – e.g. safety standards, safety communication channels over un-safe networks,  safety protocols, safety hardware – and on practice – e.g. from design to certification – to realise safe solutions for embedded industrial devices.
