The IEC 60601 is a set of technical standards for the safety and performance of medical electrical equipment.

The IEC 60601-1 sets maximum requirements for protection against electric shock by medical applications, when patients and/or operators come into direct contact with electrical equipment and systems.

To minimize these risks, manufacturers must integrate two protective measures into their products. To do this, they can implement two separate measures or apply the same measure twice. In general, the specified protection level 2 MOPP (patient protection) or 2 MOOP (user/operator protection) must be obtained.

Recent developments have meant that approval procedures for medical electrical equipment and systems have recently become even more complex. Mathias Wuttke from ODU (on behalf of TelerexIn his presentation, ) will explain in detail the measures that manufacturers must comply with in order to prevent electric shocks from medical applications.
