Brief economic corona news from September 23

- The total number of positive corona tests has passed 100,000. According to the RIVM, 2,300 positive tests were done on Wednesday, a new daily record. Amsterdam and the surrounding area in particular show a strong increase, as can be read in the AD.
- The potential corona vaccine from Janssen Vaccines from Leiden is being tested on 60,000 volunteers from the US, South Africa and a number of South American countries. This is a phase 3 test, NOS reports. Janssen has already started production of the vaccine.
- The municipality of Rotterdam provides loans totaling 21.6 million euros to prevent the bankruptcies of Diergaarde Blijdorp and the Ahoy event center. That Rijnmond reports. According to the city council, bankruptcies have more consequences for the city than the financial support that Ahoy and Blijdorp are now being offered.
- Trade organization IATA wants that all air travelers are given a corona test before their departure. The tests should provide an alternative to the current quarantine arrangements and make international passenger transport possible again.
- The Dutch lab Saltro has signed a deal with a sister lab in Abu Dhabi. This allows corona tests to be carried out in the United Arab Emirates through an airlift, writes the NOS.
