Wet socks at the 2018 FHI Golf Tournament
“Thinking back to the 2018 FHI Golf Tournament, I suddenly get wet socks again, but what a great time it was!”
At 11 o'clock the first enthusiasts arrived. Prizes on the prize table, coffee, changing and a quick practice on the track. By the time Gejan Starink gave the opening speech, everyone was eager to start the day. The cyclists (and 1 mountain biker) left with a slight delay -by stuffing the lunch into small bags- to the journey of almost 100 kilometers. The clinicians were able to enjoy a well-prepared lunch.
Around 2 o'clock it started to drizzle and within seconds that drizzle turned into a downpour. People did their best to unfold their plastic ponchos as quickly as possible, huddled together under umbrellas or hoped (against their better judgment?) that it wouldn't last long. Only the pros were prepared for all types of weather and also carried rain gear in their golf bags.
The clinicians went inside to eat a herring during the second downpour, but when the worst of the downpour had passed, most of them went back onto the track to start the race. That must have been around the time that the cyclists returned to the clubhouse, completely soaked. They probably didn't enjoy the beautiful surroundings much, but they rode a tight time.
A round was driven around the course in a golf cart to take some nice action photos. The sun had started to shine again and it seemed as if the golfers were not bothered by the showers. During the entire ride an employee drove behind the golf cart, by mistake the wrong one was taken, including the clubs of a private golfer.
At the end of the day everyone was ready for a hot shower and dry shoes. The guests gathered neatly dressed in the clubhouse for the award ceremony and the barbecue.
We enjoyed it again!
