The Netherlands is leading the way with hydrogen projects
Hydrogen is used as an energy carrier by the government earmarked as a crucial pivot in the energy transition of the Netherlands. We previously wrote about the German-Dutch collaboration project H2Watt in the Wadden Sea where major progress has recently been made. But there are currently several hydrogen projects. These have all been collected by the Top Consortium for Knowledge and Innovation (TKI) New Gas of the Top Sector Energy.
In the document There are various projects that are already producing concrete results. In the short term, these hydrogen projects already appear to have effective output, such as hydrogen buses. Or the 45 taxis that already run on hydrogen in The Hague and Ede.
There are also much larger projects planned to scale up green hydrogen production. An example of this is the construction of a new hydrogen factory in Delfzijl, which will become the largest in Europe. This Djewels project receives 11 million euros in European subsidy. Ultimately, a 20-30 megawatt factory should be built in the coming years.
The future for hydrogen looks bright. For example, experiments are also being conducted with generating hydrogen based on wind energy. A similar project that is planned is the Hydrogen Mill: a windmill that will produce hydrogen in the Wieringermeer. Or the PosHYdon, a gas production platform in the North Sea based on offshore wind, offshore gas and offshore hydrogen. The plan is to install a 1 megawatt electrolyser on the platform in 2020 to produce green hydrogen.
