With the introduction of the latest GC Fractionator tool from Da Vinci Laboratory Solutions (DVLS), this limitation is removed. The new DVLS GC-Fractionator is a fractionation platform based on a post-column infusion with a &#039;&#039;trap&#039;&#039; solvent that collects up to 384 fractions from a gas chromatographic separation with a parallel detection to correlate each fraction with analytical information.<\/p>\r\n<h2>Post-column fractionation<\/h2>\r\n<p>After the gas chromatographic separation with parallel detection, a heated solvent is added in which the eluted components dissolve. This mixture condenses and is collected in a well plate. The fractions of interest are collected with special software and sent to a well plate position.  A possible leakage of the solvent in the GC oven is detected by the sensor of the safety detection system.<\/p>\r\n<h2>Automated platform<\/h2>\r\n<p>The GC-Fractionator uses a very robust technology that allows large numbers of fractions to be collected during a GC run. The robustness has been proven in an assay for environmental research by Jeroen Kool, assistant professor in the Biomolecular Analysis research group within the Bioanalytical Chemistry department at the VU.<br \/>The fully automated fractionation based on a post-column infusion of a preheated volatile solvent allows the collection of microfractions and is able to divide entire GC run into fractions and collect with a parallel detection. The high repeatability of the fraction collection process allows multiple rounds of fractionation of the same sample to increase the concentration of the collected fractions. With the Graph Editor software tool it is possible to determine whether the fractions have ended up in the correct wells by visually displaying the chromatogram with the corresponding fractions.<\/p>\r\n<p>Different types of trays can be used for GC fractionation, such as well plates with 96 and even 384 wells or 54-position 2 ml vial trays. In addition, the movement sequence of the GC-Fractionator is also very flexible; the tool can work from left to right, from top to bottom, in any order and across different trays.<\/p>\r\n<p><a
