NEC EMC is the Dutch standards committee that mainly monitors and influences the activities of European -CENELEC- and global -IEC- standards committees that deal with EMC topics. Although we were physically invited to this meeting by Prodrive Technologies, it became an online meeting again due to the Corona measures. It would be interesting if we could visit there next time, so who knows.<\/p>\r\n<p>After a brief introduction, we started the real work, going through the standards that are currently being worked on and other documents that determine future policy. I would like to mention a few topics that have been discussed:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>It has been decided to issue an amendment to IEC 61000-6-3 in which conducted emission limits are defined in the frequency spectrum from 9 to 150 kHz, which is in line with IEC 61000-2-2. It was noted that the proposal has significant differences with the CISPR 15 limits in that frequency range.<\/li>\r\n<li>The IEC 61000-4-6 is working on multi-tone testing.<\/li>\r\n<li>A working group will be set up to discuss measurement methods and measurement inaccuracy in the frequency range from 18 to 40 GHz.<\/li>\r\n<li>Finally, there was an interesting discussion about whether new EMC standards should only be introduced if there have been a significant number of problems or whether this should also be done in advance, for example based on expected technological developments.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>At the bottom of this article the standards are listed in table form, new editions of which can be expected in the foreseeable future.<\/p>\r\n<p>In addition to discussing the standards, there was also time for some other topics. Examples were given of EMC problems caused by poor quality signal cables. In addition, I was asked to give a presentation about the integration of EMC standards within the maritime environment and the challenges we face.<\/p>\r\n<p>If you have become interested in standardization as a result of the above article, please register for the association&#039;s NEC \u2013EMC shadow committee.
