Teltonika Networks has updated the RutOS software to version RUT_R_00.07.01.2<\/p>\r\n

Here is an overview of the most important additions and changes to this software:<\/p>\r\n

RutOS is coming to RUT240!<\/strong>
Just as the previous update unlocked the full potential of RutOS for the RUT9**, RUTX**, RUT3**, and TRB** series, it now does the same for the RUT240. Having all devices on the same platform allows for more streamlined firmware updates and more available features. This also means that the devices will receive OpenWRT and Kernel updates at the same time, just like all other products using RutOS.<\/p>\r\n

\"\"<\/p>\r\n

Users can expect a more interactive user interface, faster and smoother performance based on Vue.js, and several new features to enable more streamlined applications and business opportunities.<\/p>\r\n

Wireless Mesh Network<\/strong>
Teltonika Networks already offers Mesh functionality, but the latest update will simplify its configuration. From now on, RutOS supports the Wireless Mesh 802.11s standard. It offers a faster alternative to connect multiple wireless devices to the network without setting up infrastructure (including creating access points, stations or hotspots). Operating at level 2, 802.11s allows the nodes to see each other as if they were connected to a switch.
Mesh networks are valued for their reliability, resilience, and ease of management. They are most commonly used in enterprise, hospitality, or industrial environments. IT administrators like Mesh networks for their easy configuration that can be applied to multiple devices at once and their self-healing properties. However, for a quick transition between wireless devices, Fast Roaming must also be enabled.<\/p>\r\n

Fast Roaming<\/strong>
802.11r standard is an addition to the previous 802.11 that enables seamless connection continuity of wireless devices in motion. It enables fast and insensitive client transitions from one access point to another. The connection switches to an alternative Access Point (AP) based on distance instead of operating based on network load. Whenever the wireless device moves too far from the AP, it connects to another device that comes closer at that moment. However, the process happens so fast that it does not affect the connection and users do not notice that the switch is taking place.
This feature works well for businesses with many employees using laptops and various other wireless devices. It helps ensure that they enjoy the same high-quality connection even when they move around different office spaces. Overall, Fast Roaming is a great tool to provide a smooth Wi-Fi experience in any establishment that covers large areas such as shopping malls, airports, event venues, and many other public places.<\/p>\r\n

Multi Wi-Fi station priority configuration<\/strong>
It is now possible to use support for Wi-Fi Station (STA) priority configuration on devices with RutOS. It means that Teltonika Networks router, in addition to sharing Wi-Fi for users, can also act as a user itself. With priority support it is possible to add a list of Wi-Fi stations and let the router choose the best available option according to predefined criteria.<\/p>\r\n

A good example is an intercity bus that drives through several stations. Along the way, the router uses 4G connectivity to provide internet for the ticket terminal, hotspot and other devices when needed. However, when the bus arrives at one of the stations, it automatically switches the connection to a known Wi-Fi network. The router's STA list contains SSIDs of Wi-Fi networks at all bus stations along the way. It defines in advance which network the bus connects to for data exchange, resulting in optimal connectivity and lower data costs.<\/p>\r\n

More flexibility with SNMP<\/strong>
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) enables remote monitoring of connected devices within a network. SNMP is not new to RutOS. However, Teltonika Networks has expanded its capabilities by adding Input\/Output (I\/O) support. In addition to monitoring various other parameters via SNMP, it is now also possible to check the status of inputs and outputs. The information is transferred in real time and it is possible to set up alerts for specific events. This can be especially useful in factory automation solutions, where many (old) machines use I\/Os for control and communication.<\/p>\r\n

New VPN protocol<\/strong>
Security has always been a major focus for Teltonika Networks. As well as providing flexibility to their customers and giving them the tools they find suitable for their projects. As such, they already offer an extensive list of available VPN services, including OpenVPN, Zerotier, IPsec, Wireguard, GRE and many more. Now they have added Tinc to their list. This VPN daemon uses tunneling and encryption to create a secure private network between hosts on the Internet. Because the IP-level network code is treated as a standard network device, it does not require any modification to existing software. This VPN is better suited for more advanced users because, for now, it does not have a web interface.<\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n

Enhanced IPsec throughput for RUTX** routers<\/strong>
IPsec is one of the most popular VPN tunnels that protect data exchange using cryptographic security services. However, this process results in an \u201coverhead\u201d added to each packet entering the tunnel, requiring a higher bandwidth than the actual packet size to pass through the IPsec tunnel. With the latest update, Teltonika Networks has more than doubled the IPsec throughput for RUTX** series routers. This latest improvement therefore means that users do not have to compromise performance for security and can enjoy both.<\/p>\r\n

\u00a0<\/p>\r\n

Event reporting<\/strong>
There are two major updates to event reporting. The first one is called \u201cNew Wi-Fi client\u201d. As the name suggests, it allows monitoring of new clients and analyzing public Wi-Fi. It helps in handling security risks by ensuring that no unauthorized devices can join the network and cause damage. In 2021, there was a 600% increase in cyberattacks and, as we know, a significant part of them are happening due to vulnerabilities in Wi-Fi networks.
Added \u201cTopology Status\u201d report to RUT9**, RUT3** and RUT2** devices, it warns about the changes in network topology. This is more focused on physical security breaches from the network. Whenever someone adds or removes a device, the network administrator will be notified and damage can be prevented.<\/p>\r\n

RutOS says \u201cGood day!\u201d<\/strong>
Good news for all German speakers using Teltonika Networks devices. After a short break, the German language is back in Teltonika Networks products. Please note that some newer features still need some time to be fully translated, but most of RutOS can already be used in German.<\/p>\r\n

Failover and task distribution rules<\/strong>
You can now define how load balancing should occur across multi-WAN devices with the newly added Failover\/Load balancing \u201cPolicies\u201d and \u201cRules\u201d configuration support. Adding new rules is simple and can be completed via the web interface. For example, you can now specify which traffic you want to failover or load balance. For example, if you want to increase browser speed, you simply need to create a rule to load balance this type of traffic across two modems.<\/p>\r\n

Basic update<\/strong>
Being a modified OpenWRT software, RutOS base has been updated to OpenWRT version 21.02. This means that the system has become more optimized and secure after completing the last bugfixes, eliminating vulnerabilities and adding new supported components.
