The Measuring Instruments Directive (MID) is the European directive that applies to measuring equipment for commercial transactions and levies. In order to better support the energy transition in Europe, it is desirable to improve this directive and the National Metrology Act at an accelerated pace.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

Once every ten years an opportunity comes along to contribute collective expertise to European directives and to accelerate Dutch legislation. FHI can take on this role together with members and partners by offering this expertise in this improvement process. Your input is very important here.<\/p>\r\n

Previously, technical expertise was not involved so early in the process of adapting legal preconditions to current needs.<\/p>\r\n

That is now possible.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

In collaboration with Agentschap Telecom, FHI prepared a response form<\/a>, in which we ask you to incorporate your expertise. FHI collects all responses and will combine the conclusions into several recommendations. The Telecom Agency will include these recommendations in discussions with the relevant authorities in 'Brussels'.<\/p>\r\n

In addition, FHI and the Telecom Agency will strengthen the lobby through the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate and MKB Nederland. With this, the Telecom Agency and FHI want to propose a good basis in legislation, technology and a 'level playing field' for the energy transition.<\/p>\r\n

The responses from all FHI members and partners involved are collected in a substantiation of proposed improvements. We request that you respond before January 24, 2022, so that we can draw conclusions in a timely manner for the Telecom Agency, Economic Affairs and MKB Nederland.<\/p>\r\n

Introductory information regarding accelerated changes to the MID guideline<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

The rollout of the European Green Deal, in line with the current social desire to concretize climate plans, also creates practical challenges. Europe is joining forces to achieve sustainable transport, industrial innovation, a cleaner energy system and greener buildings.<\/p>\r\n

Technology in general and digitalization \/ connectivity specifically offer great opportunities in that transition, but standards, European guidelines and national legislation will have to change accordingly. That is why 'Brussels' faces the challenge of making crucial changes to the guidelines in the coming year also suitable for the many years to come.<\/p>\r\n

The 'Measuring Instruments Directive (MID)' is the European directive that applies to measuring equipment for commercial transactions and levies. Current changes due to technology and science have not yet been correctly incorporated into guidelines and national legislation.<\/p>\r\n

Consider electric charging stations that do not issue a receipt but show the measurement result in an app. But also determining the energy content instead of measuring mass and volume. Changing measurement techniques and representation does not just come in a sealed box. We ask in the response form<\/a> to provide examples or tips\/advice to improve the European guidelines on MID for the coming years.<\/p>\r\n

All this with a focus on your work area and your own expertise in that area. We are thinking of themes\/areas such as:<\/p>\r\n

Electric charging, energy storage, DC infrastructure, infrastructure in general (electricity\/gas\/oil\/water\/hydrogen\/LNG\/CNG), impact of electrification (in industry, healthcare and built environment), integration of IoT\/smart technology, cyber security, electricity supply, energy content of fuels, E-Ticket 2.0 and time-based billing.<\/p>\r\n
