On November 11, DoIoT, the field lab on the TU Delft Campus for innovation around the Internet of Things, opened three 5G research facilities with the latest generation of mobile communications technology, together with MCS, among others.<\/p>\r\n

These facilities are available to companies, governments and research institutes. Testing with 5G accelerates innovations in areas such as mobility and logistics.<\/p>\r\n

Wide range of possibilities
<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n

The fast connections, high reliability and short response times of 5G unlock a wide range of possibilities. Evolving technologies, such as artificial intelligence, augmented reality, robotics and the Internet of Things (IoT), will have a far-reaching impact in the future.<\/p>\r\n

The domains of (among others) mobility, logistics, agriculture, health and safety will undergo major transformations, with new applications for optimizing services, decision-making and end-user experience.<\/p>\r\n

Important contribution to MCS mobile 5G kit<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n

MCS has been a partner in the Do IoT Fieldlab at TU Delft since 2020. Together with the other strong partners, MCS conducts extensive research into the innovation of Private 5G in IoT and 5G applications. 5G applications are being developed and tested so that they can then be used in practice. With this experience, MCS can further help its business partners facilitate successful IoT solutions and applications in the 5G era.<\/p>\r\n

This research into private 5G networks takes place at the two permanent test locations of TU Delft. In addition, MCS has developed a mobile 5G kit. This mobile unit will make an important contribution to research in the field lab. The mobile setup is deployed at locations that do not have the opportunity to test at one of the fixed 5G locations.<\/p>\r\n

Green Village and Unmanned Valley
<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n

The two fixed 5G facilities are located at The Green Village (TU Delft Campus) and Unmanned Valley (Katwijk). Together with the mobile 5G kit from MCS, the potential for 5G product testing and innovative research in the field of digital communication technology literally opens up.<\/p>\r\n

Lenneke de Voogd, program manager of the Do IoT Fieldlab: \u201cWithin our field lab we connect science, companies, government and end users. In Delft we will start with a study by Audus. Audus has developed a digital technology for the hearing impaired that improves the sound quality of online voice applications (such as video calling, mobile telephony, news broadcasts). The fast response times of 5G are crucial to the effectiveness of this technology in live speech<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\r\n

BeachBot cleans up trash
<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n

Techtics will be working with the BeachBot on the Unmanned Valley site. The Guardian: "This robot is being trained to recognize and clean up cigarette butts on the beach. The 5G facilities have a local reach: we can test in the immediate vicinity of the antenna with fast and large data transfers. We expressly invite start-ups, market parties, governments and research institutes to use these new facilities. Together we can explore new applications in a real environment.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\r\n

Collaboration with various partners
<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n

With Do IoT Fieldlab, the potential of digital communication technology and IoT is better utilized. The field lab works closely with TU Delft, MCS, TNO, SURF, BTG, The Green Village, Unmanned Valley, RoboValley and Mobility Innovation Center Delft; with close involvement and support from the Province of South Holland, the municipalities of Delft and Katwijk, Holland Rijnland, MRDH (Rotterdam Metropolitan Region The Hague) and with a subsidy from the European Regional Development Fund.<\/p>\r\n
