Last week the mobile 5G unit supported a number of interesting tests for the Do IoT Fieldlab.<\/p>\r\n<h3>Investigating 5G possibilities in an environment with electrolysis<\/h3>\r\n<p>The 5G research was conducted at the request of Robohouse. They are a partner of MCS in the Do IoT Fieldlab at TU Delft. Robohouse wanted to investigate the behavior of a 5G network in an environment where electrolysis is used for their partner Nobian, a chemical factory in Rotterdam.<\/p>\r\n<p>Krystian Pietrzyk, Application &amp; Industry 4.0 Engineer at Nobian, has formulated the research question for the 5G research on location in the Botlek. In close collaboration with him, we have developed a number of tests for which our mobile 5G kit was used.<\/p>\r\n<h3>Research produces surprising results<\/h3>\r\n<p>With the mobile unit it is\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nokia.com\/networks\/industry-solutions\/private-wireless\/digital-automation-cloud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nokia 5G network<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0set up on the Nobian site. Various measurements were taken inside and outside the factory space to test the &#039;throughput&#039; of the network. This gave us insight into the amount of data that is successfully moved from one place to another over the 5G network in a given time. For these studies we used the Nokia RX20 handset and an industrial 5G router\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.advantech.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Advantech<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n<p>The results were very surprising. Unfortunately, I cannot share all results in this blog, because it contains a specific research question from Nobian. But there is one research result that I can share. The network performance turned out to be many times better than we had expected in advance under these special circumstances and at the complex factory location. It was the first time that we carried out a short mobile 5G test in 3.5Ghz at the customer&#039;s location.<\/p>\r\n<h3>Investigate 5G possibilities yourself with your use case?<\/h3>\r\n<p>If you would like to know more about the possibilities of 5G, we would be happy to talk to you about it.
