And now the time has finally come: the kit is ready to go! In the near future, the 5G mobile unit will make a road trip across the country. The first stop is in Rotterdam Botlek. An important industrial estate in the largest port in Europe. Will you join us on the 5G discovery tour?<\/p>\r\n<p><em>by Bas Piek<\/em><\/p>\r\n<p>First of all, I will conduct a site survey in the Botlek together with my colleague Pim. Visiting a site in itself is not special. But this time it is very special because we are going to view the location for installing a test setup for 5G.<\/p>\r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fhi.nl\/app\/uploads\/filemanager\/1155\/1635931139_5g-mobiele-kit-pim-nobian-3-600x440.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"340\" height=\"249\" \/><\/p>\r\n<h3>The origins of the mobile kit<\/h3>\r\n<p>A short introduction to why we are on the road with a 5G mobile unit. MCS joined it more than 2 years ago\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/doiotfieldlab.tudelftcampus.nl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Do IoT Field Lab<\/a><\/strong>. Here, together with TNO, TU Delft, SURF, BTG and many other parties, we are building a 5G field lab on the TU campus in Delft and on the Unmanned Valley in Katwijk.<\/p>\r\n<p>In addition to these two fixed 5G network setups, we at MCS have developed a mobile 5G unit. This kit will make an important contribution to 5G research. We can deploy the mobile setup from the Do IoT Fieldlab at locations that do not have the option of testing at one of the fixed locations mentioned.<\/p>\r\n<p>The kit consists of a\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nokia.com\/networks\/industry-solutions\/private-wireless\/digital-automation-cloud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nokia 5G NDAC<\/a><\/strong>network that works in B43; the 3500MHz band. In addition to the Nokia network, the test unit also contains a\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.advantech.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Advantech<\/a><\/strong>\u00a05G SA router and some handsets.<\/p>\r\n<h3>Chemical company Nobian has the mobile 5G scoop<\/h3>\r\n<p>Our mobile 5G unit is now going on a &#039;road trip&#039; through the Netherlands and I will report on its adventures to you.<\/p>\r\n<p>The first destination is Nobian in the Botlek area in Rotterdam. This chemical company specializes in converting brine into hydrogen and chlorine. Pim and I are welcomed by Krystian Pietrzyk. He works at Nobian as an Application &amp; Industry 4.0 Engineer. Krystian would like to know what the performance of a 5G network is in a petrochemical environment. Our mobile 5G kit will help him with this.<\/p>\r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fhi.nl\/app\/uploads\/filemanager\/1155\/1635931177_5g-mobiele-kit-pim-nobian-4-600x805.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"334\" height=\"448\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>But safety comes first. After Pim and I have been approved after all safety tests, we make an inspection tour of the site. The location of the 5G unit is determined.
