During the annual Design Automation & Embedded Systems Event, developers and users of embedded systems (hardware and software) share knowledge of the latest technologies and exchange visions and experiences with peers. This year, extra attention will be paid to the security of embedded systems and new developments in the field of PCB\/hardware design, Software design, Artificial Intelligence and Augmented Reality.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

Building blocks for embedded Cyber Security<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\"Geen<\/a>The benefits of Industry 4.0 and Industrial IoT have a pitfall: it makes industrial devices vulnerable to cybercrime. Cybersecurity has become a critical issue not only for information technology (IT) infrastructure, but also for operational technology (OT). As IT and OT converge, both general factory floor automation and many industrial applications must be prepared for cyber threats.\r\n

In this presentation Kurt van Buul learns on behalf of HMS Networks<\/a> visitors about the actual security level of OT, its variability and the building blocks for cybersecurity. Finally, he shows a solution of cyber-secure embedded Industrial Ethernet and IIoT without the use of stacks.<\/p>\r\n

Allow wireless IoT devices to function without a battery<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\"Geen<\/a>The majority of IoT devices are powered by one or more batteries. There is a solution available to reduce the use of batteries and allow devices to function without batteries. Two technologies are implemented with an economical System-on-a-chip (SoC) that communicates via Bluetooth. These technologies ensure that the transceiver uses much less energy, not only when transmitting and receiving, but also when at rest.\r\n

Arco Snoey van TOP electronics<\/a> shows during the D&E event that batteries can be eliminated when sufficient energy is available to operate an economical SoC. This allows IoT devices to run on one battery for life, or even eliminate the need for a battery!<\/p>\r\n

Flex rig guide, total cost of ownership<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\"Geen<\/a>\r\n

Flex-rigid PCBs give a designer more freedom in developing the PCB. The choice is often made for separate rigid PCBs in combination with flex PCBs, which are then connected to each other using connectors. When one only looks at the parts list, this may look like the cheaper option, but the reality says something different. Take the total costs including connectors and the time involved in manual labor and the costs are much higher.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n

Flex-rigid PCBs eliminate the need for connectors or manual assembly to connect PCBs together. An additional advantage is that installation and service in the field becomes much easier because modules are used. Flex-rigid construction requires a lot of knowledge and experience and requires a high level of quality because the method contains different materials with different CTE. Boy van Veghel van Fineline QPI<\/a> guides you through this process through his presentation.<\/p>\r\n

The joint design of a PCB<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\"Geen<\/a>No PCB is designed by a single individual. The complexity of the market and the range of products means that the design process requires collaboration between different parties. A challenge this entails is sharing information as efficiently and securely as possible. Optimizing \u201cdata sharing\u201d<\/em> saves a lot of lead time.\r\n
