The increase in the number of electric vehicles and the charging of, for example, large fleets of e-buses and e-trucks are increasingly putting a strain on the electricity grid. Charging these buses and trucks causes multiple peak loads per day. In order to maintain the quality of the grid, smart chargers are often used that intelligently 'regulate' the power demand and available grid power, for example via energy storage.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

These so-called bi-directional chargers charge car batteries to the maximum when there is a surplus of (solar) energy and store energy from these fully charged batteries when the demand for energy is high. This way of storage can limit peak loads on the grid. With smart chargers it is also possible to set the Power Quality.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n

At the Energy Storage event on February 13, Aswin Linden, Chief Technical Officer of Heliox<\/a>, An plenary presentation<\/a> about the influence of the right (smart) charging infrastructure on the electricity grid. Heliox focuses on smart charging solutions and energy management of electric buses and trucks.<\/p>\r\n

Also ElaadNL<\/a>, the knowledge and innovation center for charging infrastructure and Smart Charging, conducts research into the effects of charging electric vehicles on the grid and grid management. Thijs van Wijk of ElaadNL presents<\/a> at the upcoming Energy Storage event the results of the research carried out into the influence of the AC\/DC conversion during charging on the power quality and vice versa.<\/p>\r\n
