It is one of our critical senses in perceiving the world \u2013 from the clothes we wear to the bedding we sleep in. <br \/><br \/>The thermoreceptors in our skin track and send information to our brain about everything we come into contact with. This helps us make decisions about what feels comfortable and keeps us safe. <br \/><br \/>Human skin is very good at detecting differences in a material&#039;s ability to transfer heat, such as the warmth of a fleece sweater compared to the coolness of leather. This material property is known as thermal effusivity \u2013 as a metric it can be used to quantify a textile&#039;s ability to exchange thermal energy between skin and tissue.<\/p>\r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fhi.nl\/app\/uploads\/filemanager\/97\/warmth-index.png\" alt=\"Warmth index\" width=\"500\" height=\"210\" \/><br \/><br \/>Why is this important? <br \/>Because human test panels have established a positive correlation between our touch perception of the warmth or coolness of a textile, to its thermal effusion. In other words, our perception that certain materials keep us warm or help us cool down is quantifiable. We know this is important when quantifying performance in a wide range of applications, such as diapers, activewear, personal protective clothing, upholstery, neoprene wetsuits and bedding. Our skin&#039;s thermoreceptors give us good information, although subjective. <br \/><br \/>The C-Therm Tx platform quantifies a warm and cool sensation for you, meaning that what was previously subjective can now be measured. It provides accurate measurements in a range of real-world scenarios, including environments with higher humidity and under different pressure loads. The C-Therm Tx measures the science of touch \u2013 so you can provide comfort.<\/p>\r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fhi.nl\/app\/uploads\/filemanager\/97\/principle-of-operation.png\" alt=\"Application\" width=\"712\" height=\"299\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>The C-Therm TCi uses the patented Modified Transient Plane Source (MTPS) technique.
