In the world of biobanks, additional requirements are imposed. Because will a robot continue to function at temperatures of -80 degrees Celsius? And what about privacy? These and other questions will be answered<br \/> <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/fhi.nl\/en\/labautomation\/programma-2019\/digitalscience-de-rol-van-geautomatiseerde-opslag-voor-biobank-en-patient\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Erik Steinfelder<\/a><\/strong><strong>, v<\/strong><strong>an BBMRI-ERIC, will answer during his talk at the LabAutomation event.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>Breakthroughs in the development of new medicines and treatments are virtually impossible without the use of biobanks, where biobanks cannot exist without patients\/donors and their consent. The connecting factor for all parties involved is the material with associated data, where the central question is how this can be accessible to science, without compromising the privacy of the patient.<\/p>\r\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbmri-eric.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BBMRI-ERIC<\/a> connects as Research Infrastructure more than 500 biobanks in Europe that together store more than 100 million samples. Within this group of biobanks, a growing number use automated storage systems to store the material under controlled conditions and to guarantee the quality of both material and data.
