However, it is becoming increasingly common for bacteria to develop resistance to these drugs, rendering them ineffective. This makes treating infections more difficult, leading to illness, death, and higher healthcare costs. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the greatest global threats, with five million people dying every year, directly or indirectly, due to AMR. This number is expected to rise to ten million deaths per year by 2050. These nominees will be featured in the High Tech Trophy gallery on the exhibition floor, where you get to decide who wins by casting your vote.
