With presence already confirmed in two summer competitions (FS Switzerland and FS Portugal), the team is ready to face even further challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-kadence-spacer aligncenter kt-block-spacer-34427_348575-00\"><div class=\"kt-block-spacer kt-block-spacer-halign-center\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-kadence-image kb-image34427_d6eeea-8b size-medium_large\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-kadence-spacer aligncenter kt-block-spacer-34427_fec642-fa\"><div class=\"kt-block-spacer kt-block-spacer-halign-center\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"kt-adv-heading34427_991db4-5a wp-block-kadence-advancedheading\" data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading34427_991db4-5a\">Following our successful transition to complex four-layer PCBs and integrated mechanical designs last year, we are now focusing our efforts on two critical, high-stakes systems: the Battery Management System (BMS) and our brand-new Power Distribution Unit (PDU).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-kadence-spacer aligncenter kt-block-spacer-34427_c102e5-ec\"><div class=\"kt-block-spacer kt-block-spacer-halign-center\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"kt-adv-heading34427_758e60-b1 wp-block-kadence-advancedheading\" data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading34427_758e60-b1\"><strong>The BMS: Reliability in the Heart of the Accumulator<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-kadence-spacer aligncenter kt-block-spacer-34427_8b18ce-e7\"><div class=\"kt-block-spacer kt-block-spacer-halign-center\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"kt-adv-heading34427_5842b4-ea wp-block-kadence-advancedheading\" data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading34427_5842b4-ea\">The BMS is essentially the &#8220;brain&#8221; of our vehicle&#8217;s energy source, ensuring the battery operates within safe limits. However, in a Formula Student car, &#8220;safe&#8221; is a relative term. The environment inside the Accumulator is incredibly harsh, from vibrations and shock to thermal stress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-kadence-spacer aligncenter kt-block-spacer-34427_cd5062-76\"><div class=\"kt-block-spacer kt-block-spacer-halign-center\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"kt-adv-heading34427_8470b0-c8 wp-block-kadence-advancedheading\" data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading34427_8470b0-c8\">This is why Eurocircuits\u2019 rigorous manufacturing standards and low tolerance for error ensure that every trace and via can handle the aggression of the race track. Rather than using traditional thermal fuses, our PDU acts as an intelligent distribution hub, delivering 24V to each sector of the car while monitoring current flow in real-time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-kadence-spacer aligncenter kt-block-spacer-34427_a808da-75\"><div class=\"kt-block-spacer kt-block-spacer-halign-center\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"kt-adv-heading34427_088520-be wp-block-kadence-advancedheading\" data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading34427_088520-be\"><strong>Designing a digital fuse box for a racing environment presents two major PCB challenges:<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-kadence-spacer aligncenter kt-block-spacer-34427_b05319-c4\"><div class=\"kt-block-spacer kt-block-spacer-halign-center\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>High Current Density &amp; Heat: To handle the cumulative current of all vehicle subsystems on a single board, we need wide traces and thick copper layers. Managing the heat generated by these high-current paths, especially around the shunt resistors used for sensing is critical. Eurocircuits\u2019 ability to manufacture boards with heavy copper weights and precise thermal via arrays ensures our PDU doesn&#8217;t become a heat sink that compromises nearby electronics.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Signal Integrity for Sensing: We need to measure tiny voltage drops across current sensors while massive amounts of power are switching just millimeters away. Any manufacturing defect or poor plating in the vias could introduce &#8220;noise&#8221; into our data. The high-quality surface finishes and manufacturing consistency provided by Eurocircuits give us the clean signal environment we need to ensure our &#8220;smart fuses&#8221; trigger exactly when they should, protecting the car&#8217;s most sensitive components.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-kadence-spacer aligncenter kt-block-spacer-34427_4ef4e9-58\"><div class=\"kt-block-spacer kt-block-spacer-halign-center\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-kadence-image kb-image34427_ac367c-d6 size-medium_large\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-kadence-spacer aligncenter kt-block-spacer-34427_c972d8-71\"><div class=\"kt-block-spacer kt-block-spacer-halign-center\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"kt-adv-heading34427_68edd1-89 wp-block-kadence-advancedheading\" data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading34427_68edd1-89\"><strong>Future of FS FEUP 03<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-kadence-spacer aligncenter kt-block-spacer-34427_d9123c-e6\"><div class=\"kt-block-spacer kt-block-spacer-halign-center\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"kt-adv-heading34427_9ea357-29 wp-block-kadence-advancedheading\" data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading34427_9ea357-29\">FS FEUP currently has its sights set on the upcoming summer competitions and the manufacturing phase of our new prototype, the FS FEUP 03.
