However, high pressure, temperature, and complex phase transitions place high demands on the equipment. How do you make the step from a promising R&amp;D process to a safe and scalable installation?<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>Above 31.1 \u00b0C and 73.8 bar, CO\u2082 is in the supercritical phase. It combines properties of a gas and a liquid and can therefore be used for, among other things, extraction and purification, chemical synthesis, material processing, CO\u2082 utilization, and mineral storage.<\/p>\r\n<p>The benefits are interesting: CO\u2082 is non-flammable and can be separated relatively easily after the process. Moreover, in closed systems, it can be reused.<\/p>\r\n<h2>The technology behind the process<\/h2>\r\n<p>For process engineers, the challenge lies primarily in controlling the process conditions. Pressure, temperature, and flow must be precisely regulated. At the same time, high pressures and temperatures demand a careful selection of materials, valves, and seals.<\/p>\r\n<p>Rapid pressure reduction can also cause problems, such as dry ice formation. With corrosive or abrasive media, additional requirements apply to the installation. Therefore, a good design does not start with a standard component, but with the process.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<figure class=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fhi.nl\/app\/uploads\/filemanager\/107\/1789132747_paebbl-working-with-a-buchi-versoclave-pressure-reactor.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"449\" \/>\r\n<figcaption>PAEBBL uses the versoclave of B\u00fcchi . <br \/>The configuration is in consultation with Suurmond <br \/>came into being.<\/figcaption>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n<h2>From reactor to dosing system<\/h2>\r\n<p>Suurmond supports R&amp;D and process engineers in translating complex process conditions into a suitable technical solution.<\/p>\r\n<p>This could consist of, for example:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.suurmond.com\/nl\/producten\/drukreactoren-voor-rd-pilot-plant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pressure reactors<\/a> from 0.5 to 500 liters, for pressures up to 500 bar and temperatures from -90 \u00b0C to +500 \u00b0C;<\/li>\r\n<li>High-pressure dosing pumps from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.suurmond.com\/nl\/brand_products\/hnp-m-micro-pompen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HNP-M<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.suurmond.com\/nl\/brand_products\/pompen-met-magneetkoppeling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GATHER<\/a> for precise supply of CO\u2082 and liquid additives;<\/li>\r\n<li>Material and seal selection, for example stainless steel, Hastelloy, titanium, tantalum, PTFE or PEEK;<\/li>\r\n<li>Custom engineering and integration of reactor, pump, control, and other process components;<\/li>\r\n<li>Support with certification, installation, and commissioning.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>Depending on the application, systems can be developed for R&amp;D, pilot, and production scales. The transition from batch to continuous processes can also be incorporated.<\/p>\r\n<h2>From idea to scaling up<\/h2>\r\n<p>For new technologies, the equipment is part of the process design. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.suurmond.com\/nl\/reactor-systems\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reactor<\/a> which works excellently on a laboratory scale requires a different approach to pressure
