For many labs, sustainability in and around the laboratory is an important point of attention. A laboratory is not an average office and making the lab more sustainable therefore entails additional challenges. Laboratories are highly specialized spaces where high standards are applied, yet laboratory technicians can also take various steps to make the lab more sustainable. In the seminar \u201cSustainability in the lab\u201d various steps are discussed and you will learn more about how you can contribute to making the laboratory more sustainable.<\/p>\n

Making academic labs more sustainable: practical steps towards a sustainable future<\/h2><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t

Sustainability of academic labs is becoming increasingly important in the Netherlands and abroad. And it is also important: It can not only save money by working more efficiently, but also contribute significantly to reducing our impact on the climate. In this presentation, Green Labs NL provides an overview of the challenge, the importance of sustainability and of course how you can tackle this yourself. Using examples, we give you a flying start with simple actions that you can start tomorrow, and we help you to initiate structural adjustments to bring about major and lasting sustainability at your institute.<\/p>\n

Making accredited clinical labs more sustainable<\/h2><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t

The Green Deal Sustainable Care expects accredited clinical labs to future-proof all their processes. Kelly Nijhof, sustainability coordinator, explains why in this presentation. The new ISO15189:2022 standard focuses on risk management and will eventually include sustainability as an integral part. This already requires an approach in which risks are further limited, opportunities are discovered and optimal patient care is guaranteed. Sustainable lab management also means limiting environmental risks. During the presentation you will learn how to make lab processes more sustainable and how to get started. Lessons from the LEAF program of UCL offer valuable insights for your lab.<\/p>\n

Discovering and Realizing Circular Opportunities<\/h2><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t

From the Northern Innovation Lab for Circular Economy \u2013 nice\u00b0 \u2013 we support companies and governments in the transition to a circular economy. First and foremost, this is about people<\/em><\/strong>: we stimulate awareness and focus on knowledge transfer regarding circularity. In addition, it is important to go doing<\/strong>. We look at the company; primary processes and business operations, but also at its environment: what does the chain look like in which you operate? And literally: who is sitting next to you on the business park, for example? From this we distill circular opportunities. Various possibilities always emerge, some more difficult than others and some with more impact than the rest. This also applies to a lab. From these insights you can make plans and take your first steps. We would like to tell you more about these first steps and about the support that is available nationally and regionally to guide you in this.<\/p>\n
