To this end, they are developing the Phoenix: a manned aircraft powered by liquid hydrogen. This ensures that when green hydrogen is used, it is completely sustainable and the emissions consist of water and heat.<\/p>\n<p>The existing model, a Sling 4, will be converted into an electric aircraft, which is powered by a hydrogen cell. Not only technical challenges are solved, the team also contributes to international guidelines for the certification of hydrogen propulsion systems. Safety is of course a very important aspect of an experimental aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>AeroDelft&#039;s goal is to inspire the aviation industry and thereby accelerate change in the aviation industry.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"text bg--offwhite\">\n\t<div class=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='heading-wrapper'><svg width=\"13\" height=\"13\" viewbox=\"0 0 13 13\" fill=\"none\" xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\"><circle cx=\"6.394\" cy=\"6.5\" r=\"6.394\" fill=\"#000\"\/><\/svg><h2>The future of hydrogen storage &amp; transport<\/h2><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"text__content text__content--1-col\">\n\t\t\t<p>In recent years, the development of the hydrogen ecosystem has been extremely rapid: where a few years ago green hydrogen production on a large scale was only a theoretical dream, the first industrial electrolysis factories are now slowly but surely being built. These are of course great developments, but they do have their downside. Within the hydrogen ecosystem there is still a major unanswered issue: transporting hydrogen.<\/p>\n<p>In recent years, SOLID has developed the Iron-based Hydrogen Storage technique, a revolutionary way to store hydrogen in the form of iron. As an alternative to existing techniques such as ammonia or liquid hydrogen transport, iron has unique advantages. During the presentation, the technique, roadmap and business case of Team SOLID will be further explained. A great emphasis will be placed on the ecosystem development of Team SOLID and hydrogen. The team was founded in November 2005 with the aim of participating in the Shell Eco-marathon in the United Kingdom in July 2006. In 2015 and in 2022 the team won this competition. In 2023, Eco-Runner set a world record by driving 2488.5 kilometers on 950 grams of hydrogen and last summer the team drove several laps of the Elfstedentocht with the first legal hydrogen car, built by students. This year the team is focusing on a new challenge: an alternative sustainable propulsion. Although electric cars are promising, they suffer from battery problems and the increasing number of them leads to overloading the grid. That&#039;s why Eco-Runner designs the first car powered by a Rankine cycle. This innovative technology allows the use of a combustion engine that runs on fuels such as metal powders, which minimizes greenhouse gas emissions. Eco-Runner aims to make significant progress in sustainable transportation solutions with their new vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>From August 2024, the team will be working on a new challenge: integrating an alternative sustainable drive in their car. With our advanced technology, we aim to accelerate the energy transition in the automotive industry. Although we fully believe in the future of electric mobility, the current concept of &#039;fast charging&#039; remains too time-consuming. To tackle this challenge, we started developing our &#039;Electric Refueling&#039; technology. Thanks to our innovative battery cooling technique, we achieved an astonishing charging time of only 03:56 minutes! In just one year, we design, build, test and race a hydrogen boat. Last year, we made history as the first hydrogen boat to cross the North Sea, and we built on our success to become World Champions in Monaco in 2023. This year, we want to once again inspire the maritime industry to move away from fossil fuels and embrace sustainable energy solutions.
