This presentation addresses the challenges in electronic systems design, as well as approaches to leverage AI to reduce design time and optimize product performance. The terms artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning are popular\/trendy topics. It is important to be clear and up-front on expectations of what they can and cannot accomplish.<\/p>\n

Artificial intelligence<\/strong> (AI) is a generic term meaning the use of computers to mimic human thinking. But the computer is not self-creating solutions. At this point, there are limitations as to the types of problems that it can be applied in a useful manner. Machine learning<\/strong> (ML) is a specific tool in the arsenal of developing AI solutions. Like any tool, it needs to be used appropriately by someone who knows what they are doing. In that sense, it is not a magic wand.<\/p>\n

Deep learning<\/strong> is a particular type of machine learning tool which can be applied to an even more precise set of problems. None of these are a solution to every problem or even the best solution to a given problem. As such, artificial intelligence in general is not a panacea. The challenge to the EDA industry is to determine which problems are most applicable to utilizing and benefitting from AI and ML tools and techniques.<\/p>\n
