For medical applications, its sensing capabilities are particularly interesting. Light measurements are non-invasive, and photonic integration enables unprecedented miniaturization and low power consumption. The technology is also scalable, resulting in significant cost advantages. This enables applications ranging from point-of-care to wearables, as well as process monitoring and control. Virtually all photonic\/optical technologies are proving suitable for integration. This enables applications ranging from vital sign monitoring, pathogen detection, bioreactor control, heart rate monitoring, pressure ulcer prevention, eye monitoring, and precision haptic technology. The lecture will explore the technological possibilities and relevant applications.
