Grid congestion is one of the most pressing challenges in today's energy transition, but what exactly is it, where does it occur, and what can power electronics and battery storage do about it? This workshop provides hands-on insight into the technical realities of grid congestion and possible solutions.<\/p>\n

Three core themes are covered. First, we examine where congestion occurs, in the public grid or behind the meter, whether it is continuous or peak-driven, and how centralized versus decentralized generation affects it. Second, we look at storage as a solution: day and night and summer and winter dynamics, realistic battery sizing using load profiles. Third, we compare AC and DC grid architectures, power flow control, cable capacity, insulation considerations, Droop Control, and the efficiency gains of powering DC linked loads directly from battery storage.<\/p>\n

Throughout, topics are brought to life through online simulations and animations that participants can run on their smartphone, adjusting parameters and exploring scenarios in real time. During the workshop, participants will experiment using the online tools and adjust droop control, battery size, select cable diameters and directly view the numerical and graphical results.<\/p>\n
