The organization of the iMNC 2017 is proud to present
three hands-on workshops on promising new technologies:
- Organ-on-a-Chip
Tuesday Dec. 12th, 11.15 – 12.45 hrs - Pix4Life, the open-access manufacturing platform for photonic integrated circuits
Tuesday Dec. 12th, 13.20 – 13.40 hrs - Single Cell Dispensing on a Microreactor Device
Wednesday Dec. 13th, 10.45 – 12.15 hrs
Tuesday evening attendees can also participate in the inSSIght workshop; an ecosystem view on Micro Nano Bio Systems.
Workshop Organ-on-a-Chip
Tuesday Dec. 12th
11.15 – 12.45 hrs
With Confocal, Fluigent, hDMT, Micronit Microtechnologies and Thermo Fisher Scientific.
Together they will show the following demonstrations:
“Gut on-a-chip: During this workshop, we will perform real-time demonstration of the microfluidic chips with human intestinal cells. This model presents a physiological human intestinal model, which can be applied to study luminal processes of drug and nutrient absorption and effects. By applying microfluidic chips, combination studies with microbiota and immune cells can be performed in the close future.”
“3D vessels on a chip: During this workshop, we will perform real-time demonstration of the microfluidic chips with pre-patterned three-dimensional (3D) lumenized vascular-like structures in collagen gels (Herland, van der Meer et al. Plos One 2016). These 3D lumens are applicable for realistic modelling of the blood vessels on a chip. This innovative technology can be now be applied for a medium scale fabrication format with up to 24 channels per plate. Automated imaging can be performed using EVOS FL AUTO2 (Thermo Fisher Scientific) imaging system, that will be shown during the demo for easy assessment of the phenotype.”
“Structured and sensorized resealable organ on a chip devices.
This workshop will focus on the integration of different technologies on the commercial organ on a chip device produced by Micronit. Three spotlights will be dedicated to different approaches to create a more controlled and biomimetic environments. First, the creation of adhesion proteins micropatterns on the cell culture membrane, achieved by the Primo system (Alvéole), will be shown. Second, optical measurement of the dissolved oxygen concentration in the cell culture medium will be presented, coupling the technology developed by PreSens to Micronit’s resealable devices. Finally, novel cell culture layers mounting ceramic membranes (Metalmembranes) will be introduced.”
Workshop Pix4Life,
the open-access manufacturing platform for photonic integrated circuits
Tuesday Dec. 12th
13.20 – 13. 40 hrs
The ABC of biophotonic system integration
Do you need advanced integration? Do you require a robust miniature optical system? Is your micro, nano or bio system too complex ? Use integrated photonics to increase stability and reliability and lower the dimensions and cost of your system? How to access this technology will be explained in this workshop of Pix4life: the open-access manufacturing platform for photonic integrated circuits, specially targeting applications at visible wavelength ranges (400-850 nm).
InSSIght Workshop
An ecosystem view on Micro Nano Bio Systems
Tuesday Dec. 12th
17.30 – 18.30 hrs
Interactive discussion on multi-stakeholder, cross-discipline, interregional innovation during the drinks and networking at the end of the first day.
Single Cell Dispensing on a Microreactor Device
Wednesday Dec. 13th
10.45 – 12.15 hrs
with Cellenion, Confocal, Fluigent and Micronit Microtechnologies
Wednesday morning Dec. 13th, attendees of the iMNC can participate in the workshop single cell dispensing on a microreactor device organized by Cellenion and Micronit Microtechnologies. The demonstration is followed by a microscopic characterisation by Confocal with the Re-Scan Confocal Microscope (RCM).
After the demonstration Micronit will talk about the standardisation of microfluidics, with their web store products and prototyping service ‘miproto’ as leading examples. Miproto allows customers to create and order microfluidic chips based on their own designs.
