Hard Sensor development needs
in Instrumentation and Process Analytical Technology
Which on-line or in-line measurements,(chemical, instrumental, are key for improving process control in future?

  • Mass flow including density, temperature, pressure, viscosity (<1% accuracy)
  • Robust pH measurements, incl. fouling detection
  • Analyzers …
  • Wireless instruments

Partners already ‘on board’:
WIB – Process Automation Users’ Association, DSM, Dow Benelux

Work packages:

  • Pressure: Hygienic applications; Oil free/Fat free sensors
  • Flow, Liquids: increased applications of disposables in bioprocesses trigger the development of single-use sensors
  • Foam and Level detection in fermentation processes
  • Temperature: self calibrating sensors
  • Composition (solids, product change)
  • Oxygen (gas at high T, fouling. In Polymer solution)
  • Fingerprinting of raw material (composition for ‘feed forward’)
  • Final product quality (e.g. acid number, NCO number, solids percentage for emulsions, pH)
  • Viscosity (polymer solution, reaction conversion)
  • Fast and high information density on product quality (UV; IR, NIR;NMR)
  • Polymer concentration
  • Yarn tension and temperature monitoring
  • Titration on line??????

Opportunities for new partners:
Suppliers: GE Energy, Honeywell, Imtech Industrial Services, Inventech, Krohne, Mitsubishi, Penko Engineering, Raster, Schneider Electric/Invensys, Techmation.
