An Army of Malware Infested Toasters: Thinking about Risk and the Internet of Things

This talk shows that the most economically viable attacks for a hacker are those done at scale. One infected device is not worth attacking, but when hacking and malware attacks are at scale, the costs incurred by the manufacturer of the vulnerable device may be less than the gain by the hacker. It is therefore in the best interest of the prudent manufacturer to design a device hardened against such
attacks.
