VeriMark is an independent inspection and consultancy agency that carries out various (document) verifications and also provides training and education on (electro)medical (installation) technology.

In practice, construction processes with one or more medically used space(s) with associated classification are often accompanied by the same design or installation pitfalls. These can often be eliminated at a preliminary stage. VeriMark helps explain (interpretation differences in) the standard NEN 1010:2015 (section 710), but also previous editions and to help determine the associated classification in medical practice. This responsibility lies with the physician, but in most cases this physician is (electrically speaking) a “layman”. There are a number of topics that must be determined in advance:

  • Space classification: group 0, group 1, group 2 (these were called “class 0, class 1, class 2 and class 3” in the previous editions of NEN 1010)
  • Designation of vital life support equipment (switch-off time from installation requirement 0.5 seconds)
  • Which area will become the patient environment and how do I determine this in advance?
  • Do I accept more than 10 mV (maximum 100 mV) on an object outside a patient environment?
  • Which major consumers (power) can be expected? (perhaps wall socket or CEE form to be designated separately)
  • Group coding of wall sockets (for example label: “TR 1+0 GR. 3N”)
  • Function coding of wall sockets (e.g. label: “for blood warmer”)
  • Where can the largest earth leakage currents be expected?
  • Number necessary wall sockets and equalization points
  • Determine one maximum number of wall sockets on a medical IT system
  • Power of the medical IT system; 1600 VA (8A) to 3300 VA (16A)
  • Red or yellow colored signal light in case of earth fault or overload
  • Reporting of earth fault or overload to BMS
  • Which parts do I set up in isolation?
  • How do I use this to set up the settlement system?
  • What to do with two adjacent (belonging) rooms...etc.
