Since its invention around hundred years ago, the Flux-Gate magnetic sensor principle has proven to be the technology of choice where high-precision current measurement is required.

As an appetizer for this talk, several different application cases will be presented in the beginning to exemplify the relevance of the high-precision current measurement in power electronics. Mainstream current sensing technologies will be reviewed , followed by explanation of how flux-gate pushes the limits on what is possible in accuracy and stability.

After a brief discussion on where this technology is heading to in near future, the presentation will be concluded with a review of several important application topics which make it possible to achieve the specified performance out of the flux-gate based current transducer
