Modern OT monitoring tools are increasingly generating technical data: about network traffic, assets, vulnerabilities and user activity. But who actually understands this data? Engineers perhaps, but for many service managers, plant managers and directors it remains a black hole. In this session we will explore how to provide structure, context and usability to this abundance of data. Using practical examples we will show how you can build an abstraction layer on top of existing monitoring tools that provides relevant insights for operations, security and decision-making. Without adding extra complexity.
Topics covered include:
• How to clearly visualize network traffic and OT assets
• Why different roles require different insights
• How to work with monitoring data across platforms
• And: whether you actually still need a 24×7 OT SOC with good insight
This presentation is intended for professionals in OT, cybersecurity and operations who are looking for control over their monitoring data and are wondering whether a 24×7 OT SOC should always be the next step.
Speaker: Peter van der Voort – OTconnect
With over 20 years of experience in the world of cybersecurity, Peter is a seasoned specialist in the field of OT cybersecurity and network architecture. Starting in 1999, he has held various hands-on roles, from network engineer to architect and cybersecurity consultant. His technical background in the electrical industry gave him valuable knowledge of PLC programming, control cabinet construction and machine installation, which proved crucial for his focus on OT cybersecurity.
In 2022, he founded OTconnect BV together with partner Nick Pfennings, with which they help companies protect their OT infrastructure against cyber threats. With his broad knowledge and experience, Peter is an expert in IT-OT integration, OT monitoring, OT Asset Management, network segmentation and cybersecurity frameworks such as IEC 62443 and NIST 800-82.
