Dealing consciously with hazardous substances, has information become redundant?

There is increasing attention to the long-term effects of hazardous substances, such as persistence in the environment, effects on biodiversity and the influence of chemicals on the climate. Does this mean that we are ready and in control in the workplaces where hazardous substances are used?
