Digital resilience in industry: from optional to strategic necessity
Cyberthreats will be a reality affecting every industrial organization in 2025. They are essential for the continuity of business processes, reputation, and regulatory compliance. Digital resilience goes beyond incident prevention: it means that organizations are able to withstand threats, recover from disruptions, and continuously adapt to a rapidly changing threat landscape.
The need to address this is increasing due to new laws and regulations, such as the Cybersecurity Act (CBW). RDI monitors compliance with this law.
Challenges for the industry
OT requires a specific approach and the threat picture is increasing.
We see that the industry faces specific challenges. Much of its operational technology (OT) runs for decades and can't be easily updated. Maintenance is often only possible during major overhauls, while smaller players struggle with the financial viability of commercial cybersecurity services.
However, there are concrete steps organizations can already take, such as leveraging existing standards, gathering current threat intelligence through the NCSC, incorporating digital resilience into asset and risk management, and utilizing natural maintenance windows for upgrades.
Getting acquainted
Once the new law takes effect, we'd like to get acquainted with the organizations we oversee. How we do this may vary by sector and even by organization. For example, we might ask you to complete a questionnaire or share information with us. We might also contact you for an introductory meeting.
Digital resilience is no longer an option, but a prerequisite for sustainable business operations. Organizations that act now will mitigate risks, accelerate compliance, and strengthen the trust of customers, partners, and society.
Digital resilience is the ability to withstand, detect, and respond to cyberattacks (resilience). This means that OT systems must be robust and reliable. Building resilience in OT systems is crucial to prevent cyberattacks from disrupting critical infrastructure and ensuring business continuity.
