Hospital activities of the future: intelligent building automation in the prestigious CHwapi “Site Unique” project

In the heart of the Belgian city of Tournai lies the Centre Hospitalier de Wallonie Picarde (CHwapi), a hospital that has been a loyal SAUTER customer for over 15 years. The current CHwapi project “Site Unique” is an excellent example of modern building automation and sustainable energy management. It impressively demonstrates how a hospital prepares for the future.

There are good reasons why CHwapi her new project "„Site Unique“ calls and speaks of the “Hospital of the Heart”. With the hospital complex currently under construction, CHwapi is setting new standards. The goal of the project is to consolidate various smaller CHwapi locations at the central site. The aim is to increase efficiency, reduce operating costs, and improve patient care. On the other hand, it involves creating a building complex with the highest degree of energy efficiency, operational reliability, user comfort and future safety. This is achieved, among other things, by using the latest technologies and intelligent solutions from SAUTER. euester Technologien und intelligenten Lösungen von SAUTER.

The solution

SAUTER Vision Center (SVC) was already in use in the old hospital center to the client's full satisfaction and will also form the heart of building management in the new project. The web-based integration platform enables central monitoring, analysis, and control of all building functions, including HVAC, energy management, lighting, and security. In particular, the extensive options for energy monitoring and management were decisive criteria for the client's renewed decision in favor of SVC. The tool enables detailed monitoring and analysis of energy consumption and shows potential savings. This can help reduce costs and help the hospital achieve its sustainability goals.

But that is not all: the location-independent operation of SVC enables a rapid response, for example in the event of unexpected malfunctions, thereby contributing to greater operational safety. The integration capabilities of various communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, and KNX also ensure smooth and secure data exchange between devices and systems from different manufacturers. Thanks to its modular design, SVC can be easily adapted to current and future requirements and is therefore a future-proof solution.

CHwapi also relies on other SAUTER solutions. Automation stations from the modulo 6 series ensure energy-efficient control of HVAC systems. The innovative system series stands for excellent performance with minimal space requirements. Like SVC, modulo 6 can be flexibly adapted to specific requirements and enable secure data transmission by supporting standard protocols such as BACnet and Modbus.

With ecos room automation, SAUTER also offers a suitable solution for precise control of room conditions in individual spaces, such as operating rooms and patient rooms. The systems also impress with their user-friendly operation via intuitive touchscreens supplied and programmed by SAUTER.

The result

Thanks to the optimally coordinated overall concept of technical solutions for building automation, CHwapi can make hospital operations in the new hospital complex even more efficient, safer, more sustainable, and more comfortable for the building's users, and thus be ideally set up for current and future needs. The "Site Unique" project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.
