COB LEDs for optimal color rendering in high-quality retail lighting
In lighting design, the bar is constantly being raised: not only efficiency counts, but also color rendering. For applications where color quality is at least as important as light output, Citizen introduces the powerful COB series: the Version 9 Type Y. The Version 9 Type Y, for example, achieves an efficacy of approximately 161 lm/W at 3,000 K and a CRI of 90, thanks to narrow-band red phosphor technology.
Mounting sizes range from 13.5 × 13.5 mm to 28 × 28 mm with nine different die configurations, available in On BBL and Below BBL variants, particularly suitable for retail.
The high flux densities require thermal management: packages such as Type Y quote a thermal resistance of ~0.34 °C/W for the 28 × 28 mm version.
Optical integration is key, with some designs requiring the compact LES diameter to use precision lenses/reflectors to avoid hot spots or colour shifts.
By combining these technological features, high efficiency, consistent color quality and the wide choice of formats, the Version 9 Type Y is ideally suited for modern high-end lighting projects.
