“Gpi De Gouwe is not only a great innovative company to work with, but also thinks about the most suitable process equipment.”
Protix is a leading company that breeds insects and processes them into quality products such as ProteinX, LipidX and PureeX. These products are created with the latest technology and provide animal food with healthy and sustainable ingredients. The residual product also finds its way back into the food chain. For example, insect skins and droppings are processed into a sustainable fertilizer called Flytilizer.
Bas Jürgens, Chief Operating Officer at Protix, was heavily involved in the purchase of the scraped surface heat exchanger – Kelstream – which, among other process equipment, is used to produce Pureex, a hypoallergenic, fresh ingredient that serves as the base for wet pet food. “Gpi came into the picture during the pilot of a process line at our branch in Dongen. The contact between both companies was so pleasant that after this test setup we hired Gpi to supply a scraped heat exchanger for the location in Bergen op Zoom,” he says.
Cooperation
“We experienced the communication, feedback and response with Gpi De Gouwe as very good and the Kelstream fully meets all expectations,” says Bas. The supplied scraped heat exchanger is part of the Pureex production process line and is used for a second cooling phase of the product. The Kelstream also ensures homogeneity of the product and prevents blockages during this cooling phase. “After delivery, we were able to easily put the scraped heat exchanger into use based on the supplied documentation. Moreover, Gpi is always on standby should any unexpected problems arise.” said Bas.
“In the process leading up to the purchase of the F700 model from the Kelstream series, it became apparent that Gpi De Gouwe has the knowledge and expertise of the products that it designs and makes,” he confirms. “In addition, the sustainability of this scraped heat exchanger fits in well with Protix's values.”
Due to all the regulations, most of Protix insect products can currently only be used as an ingredient for animal feed or as fertilizer, but in the future Protix hopes to be able to serve the entire human and animal food chain with their unique products. In addition, Protix also aims to grow the number of locations worldwide to confirm their market leadership in the global insect industry.
What makes the Kelstream unique
The Kelstream Scraped Heat Exchanger has two heated or cooled surfaces that are continuously scraped. This allows a high heated surface to be achieved on a small floor area. In addition, the Kelstream is equipped with a hygienic lip seal, which does not require barrier fluid for the seal to function. If necessary, the seal can be rinsed from the inside and is also cost-efficient because only the wearing parts of the seal need to be replaced.
