The FHI Economic Barometer provides a quarterly update on the economic outlook within various sectors. This barometer, based on various indicators such as turnover growth, order portfolio, opportunities and threats, provides insight into current market trends and future expectations. In this summary we provide the findings for Q2 2024, which provide insight into the performance of the various sectors and their expectations for the future.

- Total Order Position: In Q2 2024, we see an improvement in the total order position for all industries compared to a year ago. The majority of companies in Laboratory Technology have experienced a positive development. In Industrial Electronics, the situation has also improved compared to Q2 last year, although some companies are experiencing stagnation or a slight deterioration in their order portfolio. In Industrial Automation, there is a noticeable improvement compared to the previous year: although many companies are still reporting a deterioration, the negative trend is less pronounced than a year ago.
- Turnover: The figures for total turnover generally show an improvement compared to a year ago. While a small majority of companies in Industrial Automation report a slight increase in turnover, turnover in Industrial Electronics remains flat compared to the previous quarter. In other sectors, however, many companies see a decrease in turnover. This mixed picture points to an uneven recovery within the different sectors.
- Opportunities for 2024: When members were asked about the opportunities for their companies, the majority indicated that they see the most potential in the energy transition. This highlights a sector-wide shift towards sustainable solutions and technologies, which is seen as a key growth driver for the coming years.
