FOCUS-ON in Dordrecht is a collaboration between KROHNE & SAMSON and has launched the world's first “smart meter valve” for the process industry.
FOCUS-ON's vision with FOCUS-1 is to simplify the process industry and FOCUS-ON does this with the following goals:
Goal 1: Integration of components
FOCUS-1 integrates four physical process parts into one device: a linear control valve and flow, pressure & temperature sensors. This allows the process to be controlled and monitored. Just like a conventional control, but with fewer physical connection points, separate components, cables and software points. This makes the process clearer and results in savings of up to 33 percent.
Goal 2: Simplifying communication
The simplified control philosophy allows flow to be communicated as a setpoint and costs for I/O & PLC/PID can be reduced.
Goal 3 and Goal 4: More transparency in the field
Integrated freely configurable alarms extend product life and reduce system downtime. The use of digital maintenance models, based on physical models, eliminates the need for mechanical redundancies. In combination with an online dashboard, which provides real-time insight into FOCUS-1 and the process with or without an Asset Management system. An example of this can be found in the video below, in which a leak detection model is visualized.
FOCUS-1 supports customers in the steps towards Industry 4.0. This contributes to an efficient, reliable and cost-effective process!
