How do you maintain freedom when adjusting gearboxes?
Sometimes the adjustment of gearboxes in a frame very precisely, for example when adjusting the pinion on a rack or when aligning an overdetermined construction. In that case it would be easy not to give the gearbox a fixed position in the frame but to make the gearbox movable relative to the frame.

Application of slotted holes

Normally you would position the gear box via the centering edge - with tolerance g6 or h6 - and fix it with bolts. But in certain constructions or when adjusting a pinion it is optimal not to fix the box in advance. This is easily achieved by so-called slob holes. (Also slobgaten, slob-holes, slotted hole, trou oblong or Langloch) Incidentally, according to the "van Dale" dictionary the term slobberen comes from clothing that is too loose.
