Organon Oss switches to Life Cycle Management

ICT Group manages industrial automation and maintains cyber security at the highest level.

Organon Oss was hit by a cyber incident a few years ago, before it became an independent company. Since then, Organon has been working in partnership with ICT Group on an IT and OT environment that is resilient to external influences. With Life Cycle Management, security is now implemented as standard in every program.

Intensive changeover

Roel van de Camp, Site Lead Life Cycle Management at Organon, has been working for Organon for 24 years. He started out as a technician and is now responsible for the project and program management of the site in Oss. “The cyber attack in 2017 opened our eyes. It was clear to everyone that we had to take a new path. We immediately started looking for a collaborating IT partner and quickly ended up at ICT Group. They are large, broadly oriented and have proven to be able to switch easily. Together we first made an inventory and developed a plan of action that they then implemented. That was a very intensive project, because we had to examine all parts within the organization.”

Life Cycle Management program

“After completing this project, I took it over and incorporated it into a Life Cycle Management (LCM) program. In fact, the complete modernization of our OT and IT environment falls under this. We very regularly initiate industrial automation projects, for which ICT Group provides expertise and implementation. Think of complex PC and SCADA upgrades of many production assets. This is all part of the Life Cycle Management program. ICT Group has a project team on site for this and adds specific expertise from their organization where necessary. Then we really benefit from the in-depth domain knowledge and the many experts they have. In the future, we want to increasingly switch to a fixed price, with ICT providing the implementation within the scope.”

From reactive to modernization

“Modernization is simply a must. Without it, you will get more and more failures and downtime of our production environment, nobody can afford it. We are a stable, highly reliable production company of medicines for women's health, our customers count on us. That is why we periodically examine the end of life date of each installation and replace parts now before they fail. We have gone from reactive to proactive. Life Cycle Management is fully integrated into Organon's future plans, it is an integral part of our work. Cyber security and data integrity are given full attention. You can safely say that we have made a huge change.”

Collaboration more important than contract

“We are currently investigating how we can roll out this program to other Organon sites, including in the United Kingdom. We are also discussing this with ICT Group and we certainly see a role for them as a collaborative partner. Because it is clear to me that we would never have been able to take the steps of the past 3 years without the partnership with ICT Group. We cannot do this alone as an organization. Their vision of security 'staying healthy, healing quickly' ties in perfectly with ours. The intensive collaboration proves that you do it together. A contract is nice, but I find the result much more important and I am simply very satisfied with that.”
