New MELIPC edge computing solution for Smart Factory applications
Mitsubishi Electric now has a new solution for companies that want to connect the OT systems of the production floor with their IT systems. The Edge Computing solution MELIPC enables further optimization of preventive maintenance and quality control through real-time data analysis and direct feedback to the operator.
The MELIPC solution can increase production quality and productivity in industries such as automotive, food and beverage, and life sciences. The real-time process software provides local diagnostics, predictive feedback, and visualization for analysis of processes on the production floor.
Analysis algorithms for predictive maintenance and quality control are integrated into the MELIPC series. In continuous production applications, this solution can both optimize processes and adapt to variables. Its efficiency is increased by generating a real-time predictive model that can be updated and refined based on new process requirements. For example, packaging machines in the food and beverage industry can predict problems and prevent errors, thus improving quality.
The MELIPC solution can detect deviations in machine status in real time using artificial intelligence (AI). Detailed status information is reported back to the automation level, allowing machine operators to make adjustments or perform maintenance early and proactively. This improves efficiency and increases machine availability. Decentralized data processing at the edge also offers advantages in terms of data security and process integrity. For example, the MELIPC-solution can be used in life sciences applications to store and analyze sensitive data at OT level instead of sending it to the cloud. This also reduces the speed of diagnosis to real-time and reduces the cost and complexity of the IT infrastructure.
The new MELIPC solution complements Mitsubishi Electric's existing edge computing portfolio, such as MAPS SCADA, data loggers and controllers.
