Grid congestion can be a reason why larger capacities are not always available. This applies, for example, to connections at construction sites. Because this limits the maximum peak power of many machines and installations, temporary support can provide a solution.
With the ESC series of bi-directional DC/DC converters, Epic Power has the option to pre-charge the integrated supercaps and, if maximum power is desired, to discharge them again on the DC bus of a frequency converter. This prevents the network from being overloaded or the machine not being able to utilize its maximum capacity.
Depending on the amount of required capacity, i.e. power times time, several units can be connected in parallel. The controls are simple. Digital I/O can indicate when charging or discharging is allowed.
This may apply to electric construction cranes, cement mixers, but also other construction installations or equipment.
