Phoenix Contact has received two new IEC 62443 certificates from TÜV Rheinland.
The mGuard Security Routers are certified according to IEC 62443-4-2. With this certification, TÜV Rheinland confirms that the Security Routers meet the high security standards for production facilities. The Security Routers consistently achieve Security Level Capability SL-C 2. Regular firmware updates and various software maintenance measures ensure that this high level of security is maintained in the long term.
As part of the regular three-yearly recertification, the product development process has been reassessed and confirmed by TÜV Rheinland in accordance with IEC 62443-4-1.
Phoenix Contact has now received certifications up to and including Maturity Level 3 for a total of seven Business Units. The Product Security Incident Response Team (PSIRT) was also certified. The PSIRT identifies and analyses security vulnerabilities, coordinates the collaboration of internal product experts and publishes security messages about confirmed vulnerabilities. This certification confirms that Phoenix Contact is able to respond quickly and effectively to security incidents and to optimally protect its automation systems.
For customers, the certifications mean that systems currently being developed will continue to meet the required security standards even after new cybersecurity laws such as NIS2, the Machinery Regulation and the CRA come into effect. Machine builders and system manufacturers have the necessary investment security to meet increasing security requirements in the future.
Phoenix Contact laid the foundation for its cybersecurity measures back in 2018 with the first TÜV certification according to IEC 62443-4-1. In 2021, PLCnext Control became the first industrial controller on the market to be certified according to IEC 62443-4-2 SL2. Since then, the company has continuously applied the secure-by-design development processes for numerous products such as PLCs, firewalls, switches, routers and power supplies. The number of Phoenix Contact products certified according to IEC 62443-4-2 is now in the double digits, with more in the certification process.
The numerous certifications underline the company’s continued commitment to high security standards in the industry. They are an important part of Phoenix Contact’s 360° security concept, which aims to ensure the security of products and systems throughout their entire life cycle. The IEC 62443 certifications are an essential part of our digitalization strategy. Cybersecurity is particularly important to Phoenix Contact, especially in the automation industry, where the security of systems and data is of the utmost importance.
