From technology to experience: this is how the casino of the future was created
The casino must offer more than just a game of roulette: it is an experience. This also applies to Holland Casino Enschede. After twenty years, it was time for a transformation. Kropman, a permanent partner for ten years, faced a major challenge: modernizing and making the casino more sustainable while the work remains open. The result? A future-proof and surprising building in which experience and technology come together. Daniël ten Kate, manager at Kropman, explains how his company tackled this.
The goals of the renovation were clear: not only to renew the technology, but also to create a fresh look and feel create. Daniël: “Think of new slot machine layouts and a better layout of the space. We thought carefully about the visitor experience when designing it. A casino should feel like a special outing: chic and surprising.”
A striking detail in the casino is the decorative tree with integrated lighting. Daniël: "How do you arrange for all those lights in such a tree to give the right light without the technology being visible? Such a question makes the work challenging and fun. In the end, all the technology was neatly concealed. To achieve this, we coordinated the design with each other in the initial phase and where necessary this was done locally by specialists.”
One of the biggest challenges was to carry out the renovation while the casino could continue to receive visitors. Daniël: “That’s why we had to plan carefully. We drilled and tested outside opening hours. And we carefully cordoned off our work area so that visitors could continue playing in peace.” The result? No decline in visitor numbers during the renovation.
For Daniël, good cooperation is essential. “In a project like this, but also in the industry. Everything stands or falls with trust and honesty. It is not just about the technology, but also about sharing information. If everyone keeps data and information in their own little box, we will not get any further. In fact: it is a crucial point to be able to move forward in the future and develop systems. Ultimately, we all benefit from using our expertise and data better.”
Kropman is active in technical services and is an expert in design and technology, service and maintenance, building automation and prefab solutions. The company combines national reach with local presence. It specializes in complex buildings – for example hospitals, laboratories and casinos – and focuses on innovation, efficiency and sustainable solutions.
