Robustel launches revolutionary IoT framework 'Edge2Cloud' (E2C)
Robustel launches 'E2C' – a framework for Robustel IoT Gateways/Routers.
E2C makes it possible to quickly integrate industrial protocols such as Modbus and OPC UA with modern cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Since its founding in 2010, Robustel has supported its customers with industrial mobile network devices (such as gateways and routers) and tailor-made applications to connect industrial protocols (e.g. Modbus) and sensors with application servers in the cloud.
With E2C, Robustel wants to ensure that its customers save time and costs when developing new IoT/SCADA applications.
It is now possible for Robustel customers to receive digital/analog IO and Modbus data from the edge on platforms such as AWS and Azure in a simple standardized JSON format.
Protocols such as BLE, OPC UA and Siemens S7 will also be added in the short term. This will further increase the number of verticals and use cases.
“The technology has been available for a while, but being able to do this via 4G at a very competitive price makes products like the Robustel R1520 a real game-changer. IoT integrators can now fully focus on adding value at the platform or application level, confident that data collection is done reliably and cost-effectively using Robustel E2C-enabled devices,” said Robustel Global IoT Solution Architect, David Evans.
E2C includes a data buffer capacity that is a critical, and often overlooked, addition to IoT systems. Mobile networks such as 3G/4G are not infallible, buffering stores important data on the router and forwards it when connectivity is restored. This is an important addition for customers looking for a reliable and complete data service.
For Robustel customers looking for even more reliability for their IoT applications, E2C can be expanded with Robustel's “Smart Roaming” application.
Smart Roaming is a unique technology that optimizes 3G/4G network selection and provides greater flexibility when using roaming SIM cards (also called multi-network SIM cards) for mission-critical device communications.
Robustel's goal with E2C is to create a comprehensive library and ecosystem of compatible protocols, IoT devices and cloud platforms, making management much easier and paving the way for mass IoT adoption.
E2C is now available as a free firmware upgrade for Robustel R1520, R2110 and R3000 devices and more devices will be added in the near future. The current version of E2C offers full support for Modbus and analog/digital IO with data options for Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services and MQTT.
