In July 2019, the discovery of eleven Zero-Day security weaknesses in the Wind River VxWorks real-time system became known.

Updating all devices running VxWorks is often not easy or not possible at all. That is why Phoenix Contact offers a simpler and retrofittable solution with the mGuard security routers: the Security Appliances are easily integrated into the network and fully protect the VxWorks devices against attacks via all critical Urgent/11 security holes.

VxWorks is used in more than two billion devices, primarily in major industrial, medical and enterprise equipment. The eleven security vulnerabilities are grouped together under the name Urgent/11 and allow attackers to take remote control of devices without any interaction with the user. Security systems such as firewalls are bypassed.

More information about configuring an mGuard security router to protect against Urgent/11 can be found in a whitepaper on our website.
