Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) – direct communication from sensor to cloud
During PPA 2023, Dirk Kop from JUMO will discuss the benefits of Single Pair Ethernet. Single Pair Ethernet is an Ethernet-based communication that is the basis for many transmission protocols. The SPE technology is explained in more detail using a demo.
Simplified application management
SPE's Ethernet-based communication technology forms the basis for a large number of transmission protocols. The consistent concept enables direct communication between the sensor and the Cloud. This allows individual levels of the automation pyramid to be combined, simplifying applications.
High flexibility
Transfer speeds of up to 1 Gbit/s and cable lengths of up to 1000 meters ensure a high degree of flexibility. By using only one pair of wires (Single Pair), the cabling is significantly reduced and existing cabling can be used. In addition, the individual sensors are supplied directly with energy via the SPE line (PoDL= “Power over Data Line”), which further reduces installation and cabling efforts.
Equipment equipped with SPE interfaces offer the possibility of Ethernet-based communication from sensor to Cloud, PLC or automation system.
During PPA 2023, Dirk Kop from JUMO will explain the Single Pair Ethernet technology in combination with digital sensors and MQTT in more detail.
