On December 19, the Ministries of Defense and Economic Affairs, together with the National Coordinator for Counterterrorism and Security, organized a meeting on national resilience against military and hybrid attacks. In this message we present the most important conclusions that are relevant for FHI members.

Increasing threat
Geopolitical reality is forcing Europe to face the facts. The chance that the Netherlands, as a NATO member, will become involved in a conflict is real. There is also a terrorist threat from jihadist quarters, as is evident from the Terrorism Threat Assessment Netherlands.

Hybrid attacks
The Netherlands is already a target of hybrid attacks, as was revealed during the meeting. A hybrid attack combines various techniques, including cyber attacks, sabotage, espionage, dissemination of disinformation and the exertion of economic pressure. These attacks threaten our security and the continuity of business.

Economic resilience prevents business processes from stagnating or coming to a standstill. The more a company produces in-house, the less likely this is to happen. It is also essential to think about various disaster scenarios and take preventive measures. For example, what do you do if there is a long-term power outage or drinking water becomes scarce? How do you guarantee the continuity of your company if the internet is down for days?

Keep in touch
The meeting concluded with a call to invest in business networks. To promote cooperation at a national level, EZ is working with stakeholders where MKB-Nederland is an important discussion partner when it comes to resilience.
