Increasing attention for security certifications in IoT
DDoS attacks here, data leaks there, hackers trying to gain access to sensitive information with increasingly sophisticated phishing emails. It is no wonder that cyber security is increasingly high on the priority list for companies.
As an IoT specialist, we are increasingly asked which 'security' or 'cyber security' protocols our products and services comply with.
Security measures vary per process
This question cannot be answered with one answer. Security measures to protect yourself and/or your products and services in the digital (IoT) domain are diverse.
That is why it is important to understand the question behind the question. Every process or application that is wirelessly connected to the cloud, or even on an Edge environment, can have weak spots. Or be vulnerable to an attack by cybercrime.
But there are also applications where the risk may be, but the value of data is very low. In these cases, taking measures may not be economically justifiable. That is why it is important to discuss these questions individually per case.
Comply with a wide variety of security guidelines
As MCS we have a broad view on this issue. In addition to APN/VPN connections and data encryption, we also work closely with various suppliers to meet the IEC 62443 specifications. For example, our partner Advantech recently also whitepaper published about cyber security surrounding these security certifications.
In addition, the NIS2 directive is an international directive for cybersecurity that affects a serious number of our customers. We also receive questions about this in relation to our services.
A number of our suppliers are therefore investing heavily in making their products and services cyberproof with their own security.
Digital society is sometimes vulnerable
In short, it is a very topical subject that concerns our customers. And rightly so, because we live in a digital society and that sometimes makes an OT environment vulnerable. Especially now that business environments are becoming increasingly critical due to this digitalization.
