We no longer operate machines and equipment with buttons and switches alone. Touch and display technology form the basis for countless HMI applications as we know them today. Yet innovation does not stop here either and developers are looking beyond this two-dimensional way of interaction. For example, display manufacturer EDT also knows how to give the interaction field around a display more depth with their SpaceGesture technology. With this type of displays, physical interaction with the touch part is no longer necessary and the interaction can take place a few centimeters away from the screen.

Batenburg Applied Technologies, EDT distributor for the Benelux, sees that this technology plays an increasingly important role in applications where hygiene is a concern or where operation with gloves or dirty hands makes touching the display undesirable. In addition, the SpaceGesture functionality also works with thicker cover lenses or when there are water droplets on the screen, something that we often see in outdoor applications. Of course, the display can also be operated via the normal touch interface when necessary.
